About Fraser Valley Water Polo

Fraser Valley Water Polo (FVWP) is a high performance water polo club based out of British Columbia's Fraser Valley region.

We offer developmental and high performance water polo programs for boys and girls ages 7 through 19 years old, and residing in the following 11 BC Lower Mainland towns/cities: Abbotsford, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Coquitlam, Langley, Mission, New Westminster, North Delta, Port Coquitlam, Surrey, White Rock.

Top Water Polo Program

Throughout the years, our club has grown into one of Canada's top water polo programs, recently entering a new era with the addition of Canadian Legend, Michel Roy, as the Head Coach of FVWP.

FVWP club is a not-for-profit amateur sports society and our organization takes great pride in our training programs, which are all athlete-focused. Our quality programs are maintained by a dynamic coaching team and a devoted parental volunteer base.

Our athletes train out of a number of pools in the Fraser Valley, including Walnut Grove Community Centre, Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex and Aldergrove Outdoor Pool.

National Championship League

Fraser Valley competes in the National Championship League (NCL), which is administered across the country by our governing body, Water Polo Canada. The NCL offers four categories of play: Senior, 19U, 17U, and 15U.

Our club also pursues opportunities throughout the season to play in tournaments locally, and internationally for all of our teams.

Since day one, athlete development has been the highest priority for Fraser Valley coaches. Our alumni include Olympians, former, and current national team players (at the junior and senior levels) and a growing list of athletes recruited to play with NCAA Div 1 teams.

Our experienced staff is always happy to encourage and guide athletes hungry to take to the next step in their water polo careers.

Athlete Development

Our mandate is to promote the development of athletes by the delivery of quality, value-based programming throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

With skilled, qualified leadership, we will provide an athlete-centered sport with accessible, affordable and equitable programming for all members.

A fun, safe and enjoyable environment will be provided for all members with the opportunity for training, competition and related activities. We aim to cooperate in the pursuance of the foregoing purposes with groups and organizations in the province of British Columbia and throughout Canada, including Water Polo West and Water Polo Canada, having purposes wholly or in part similar to those of the Fraser Valley Water Polo Club

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE

As a member club of Water Polo Canada, the Fraser Valley Water Polo Club competes in the cross-country water polo league known as the National Championship League (NCL). This high-performance league is Canada’s premiere development league, with the top teams from the Eastern and Western conferences meeting in May to decide that season’s national champions. The NCL runs in four divisions: Senior (Masters), 19U, 17U and 15U. There is also a modified NCL division for 15U girls and boys which involves local league play from Jan - April and culminates in Conference Championships in May. (The 15U Division does not compete at the National Championships)

For a Fraser Valley athlete, the NCL season runs throughout the majority of our regular season (beginning in October, culminating in national championships in May of the following year). As a western conference team, Valley teams travel once per season to Alberta, and Saskatchewan to play “conference weekends”, or a series of games against out-of-province competition. In addition to these travelling weekends, Valley teams will play intra-province games against other B.C. teams periodically throughout the season. A team’s record then determines their placement in the western conference championships (held in late April) which serve as the qualifier for national championships.

PACIFIC NORTH WEST YOUTH LEAGUE

The Pacific North West Youth League is an international water polo league designed to give young athletes in B.C., Washington State, and Oregon a chance to play more water polo. The inaugural season for the PNWYL took place in the fall and winter of 2015, with three divisions represented in the league: U12 co-ed, U14 girls and U14 boys.

League play consists of three, mad-cap one-day weekend competitions where athletes play around 6-8 games throughout the day. With no year-end championships, the emphasis in this league is on gaining valuable game experience before our athletes move up to compete in the National Championship League at the U16 and U19 level.
